Academic Success


Life University is committed to the personal growth and life satisfaction of our students. We offer a variety of services and resources for all enrolled students. Our goal in counseling is to provide an environment where students can learn valuable life and coping skills to take proactive steps in improving their overall well-being. Counseling offers a variety of services which cater to the diverse needs of our students.

Individual/Couples Counseling: Life University offers individual and couples counseling through the Student Assistance Program (SAP). SAP provides 24/7 availability with a mental health professional 24/7/365. In addition, students can request a phone or face-to-face session with an off-campus therapist. Students will be provided with six free personal counseling as well as six free coaching sessions. This service allows students consistent availability including nights, weekends, and/or holidays with a licensed mental health professional outside of the University. In addition, the service can be utilized by students’ dependents which includes spouses and/or children. You can contact SAP directly by calling 866.734.5890. A counselor can also assist you in contaction SAP.

To inquire or take advantage of these resources, students can call (770) 426-2725 or stop by the office located in the Center for Chiropractic Education (CCE) Building. Students can be directed to various community resources and can also receive help navigating through the process of connecting to an SAP therapist or other resources within the community.

Crisis Intervention

A student in crisis should contact Campus Safety at (770) 426-2911 or 911 immediately. The Georgia Crisis & Access Line (GCAL) has a 24/7 crisis line at 1-800-715-4225. All are available 24/7.

Health Promotion & Wellness Workshops:

As a student at Life University, you can attend an array of workshops to enhance and support your personal life experiences. The workshops are held at various times throughout the quarter. A few of the workshop topics are as follows:

Small Groups:

Life University students interested in participating in small groups can join Circle of Hope or Parent 2 Parent. Circle of Hope is designed to support those experiencing some form of grief or loss. The vision of Parent 2 Parent is to provide a safe place for current Life University students, who are parents, with appropriate resources, tools, and helpful information to support their parental, academic and life endeavors.

WHAT IS SAP – Student Assistance Program?

The SAP is designed to offer counseling services to students of Life University. Counseling is available in a variety of settings including face-to-face phone counseling, and online resources. As a student, you have access to six free personal face-to-face and/or phone counseling sessions in a year (October 1–September 30); six coaching sessions and unlimited calls with a mental health professional. Mental health counselors are available by phone 24/7/365. You may also access information and assistance online at www.ESPYR.com and click on Member Access. Password: lifeu


SAP is free for you and your dependent family members for up to six personal counseling sessions and six coaching sessions within a year (October 1–September 30). Access to online resources is also free of charge.


SAP can help with many personal concerns both large and small. These concerns can include:

  • Relationship issues
  • Crisis
  • Alcohol and drug problems

Disability Services

Disability Services

Students with documented disabilities may request reasonable accommodations, which will afford them equal access to all educational programs and activities of the University. Requests for reasonable accommodations must be made to Disability Services 770-426-2725 or Dr. Haney, Director of Disability Services Genelle.Haney@life.edu. The University complies with all state and federal regulations regarding the provision of reasonable accommodations to education programs and services in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 Rehab Act and the ADAA.

A disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. The disability must be clearly documented with information confirming that the student is substantially limited by the impairment and that a need exists for the accommodation.

A student will not automatically be provided with accommodations based on a diagnosis alone. Evidence must be presented that the disability is significantly interfering with the student’s academic performance. Each accommodation is individualized to the particular student, as supported by the student’s documentation.

All students must meet and follow all Life University rules, Student Handbook, Course Catalogs and Technical Standards, with or without approved accommodations. The University will make such modifications to its academic requirements as are necessary to ensure that such requirements do not discriminate, on the basis of disability, against a qualified student with a disability. Academic requirements that the University can demonstrate are essential to the instruction being pursued by such student or to any directly related licensing or accreditation requirement will not be regarded as discriminatory. Please check with Disability Services if you are declaring, adding, or changing a major or program to determine (a) whether Disability Services requires additional documentation or (b) whether other Technical Standards apply to the major or program. **Please review the attached Technical Standards or see the Life University Catalog**

All students are responsible for providing adequate documentation. Life University is not required to conduct or to pay for any evaluation to document a disability or need for an academic adjustment. Life University does not provide any evaluations or documentation for disabilities. These documentation requirements should be taken to the student’s evaluator and the evaluator is required to make recommendations for academic accommodations in each of the following categories (when applicable): written examinations, technique classes, lab classes/examinations, and clinical experience.

Documentation from an outside independent (non-Life University) licensed professional must be provided to Disability Services. Students are responsible for all funding to pay for appropriate professional documentation. 

Documentation should include the following: (Please refer to Documentation Guidelines located on the Disability Services webpage)

  1. Be provided by a qualified licensed professional with the ability to diagnose the specific disability and must abide by the Conflict of Interest Policy for Disability Services as stated:

Students who request accommodations and provide documentation to Disability Services, must use a qualified licensed professional that is independent of Life University; therefore, the following cannot be utilized: faculty or staff member whether full-time, part-time, adjunct, extension fatuity or preceptor. This is to avoid a conflict of interest to the dual role of providing services at the University.

This policy for documentation provided by the licensed professional is for the following but not limited to:

a) the student’s use in helping support whether the request for accommodation under the ADA, Section 504 Rehab Act of 1973, or the ADAA should be granted, 2) the purpose of updating documentation or adding accommodation recommendations and 3) documentation for extenuating circumstances related to Disability Services. There is a formal grievance process available through the Grievance Committee.

  1. If the student is 18 years or older, documentation should be current adult based (18 years or older, post high school). Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504 plan, and/or a prior history of accommodations are not necessarily sufficient documentation for postsecondary education, since different demands are required and the nature of a disability may have changed due to maturation. (***Note: If you are a Chiropractic student or plan to go into the Chiropractic program, please review National Board of Chiropractic Examiners documentation requirements at www.mynbce.org**)
  2. Be on professional letterhead with address and telephone number.
  3. Original signature of professional with listed degree and specialty.
  4. Dated.
  5. Assessment data should be included. Comprehensively and clearly define the impact of the disability on the student’s functioning in daily life. Clearly define the limitations  imposed and the support data verifying the impact of the condition. Single sub-tests or checklists are not acceptable as a sole source of documented data. Standard or scaled scores from all tests and sub-tests must be included in your diagnostic report.
  6. Recommendations for accommodations must be listed with support diagnostic information. Documentation must be specific in listing practical and written exam based accommodations, if appropriate. ***For Chiropractic Students, please see National Board of Chiropractic Examiners website for further details (“Test Accommodation  Guidelines”)***

Academic Learning Center

Life University’s Academic Learning Center (ALC) is here to help you with “renewing yourself” for academic excellence by offering services to assist you with achieving your academic goals!  ALC services/programs can do this by helping you to foster the development of student competencies and academic excellence.  We offer support services/programs to help you improve your study skills and develop effective learning strategies to enhance academic achievement.

Services offered:

· Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) program for all colleges

· Online Tutoring 24/7

·One-on-one tutoring assistance

· Academic Success Workshops

· Open Learning Center in CGUS 220

Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) Program

The purpose of the Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) program is to help undergraduate and Doctor of Chiropractic students assisting them to become independent learners while gaining supplemental instruction. PAL utilizes student leaders, who have succeeded in challenging courses, to facilitate collaborative review sessions each week. PAL assists students with improving their learning strategies to promote independence and empowerment inside the classroom. PAL leaders can also directly be involved in facilitating review session activities and discussions. Leaders use a non-remedial approach to learning that supports students toward academic success by integrating “what to learn” with “how to learn.”

PAL is a free service offered to all students in a targeted course.

All students are encouraged to attend PAL as it is a voluntary program.

PAL leaders

PAL Leaders are students who have earned an A or B in the course they will lead. They have also had letters of recommendation letters/forms written by two of their professors. One must be from the course the PAL is interested in assisting. These positions are on a need basis per the instructor or per student body.

Benefits of Using PAL for Students

Student participants will learn how to study effectively- both independently and collaboratively. They will also develop a deeper understanding of course material and how it applies to their world. This will translate into better grades and a higher level of confidence that they belong at Life University and can succeed academically here.

What can PAL do and What can’t it do?

PAL can help students learn how to study both independently and collaboratively. It also helps students learn from one another, verify actual course knowledge, challenge them to teach material back to the PAL leader and prepare them for future courses. PAL cannot replace the professor’s lectures or in-class assignments. PAL leaders will never cover material in their sessions that has not

been already covered in class. Attending PAL sessions does not guarantee that a student will be successful on their exams and other assignments. Students must still be responsible for their own learning.

Online Tutoring

Students may access online tutoring through Tutor Me. The link to access this online tutoring is found on Blackboard in all courses in which the student is enrolled. There are over 300 subjects available.  This is a free service for students.

One-on-one Sessions

These sessions where you can work with a PAL one-on-one or work with the member of the staff on specific courses or skills. These can be face-to-face or virtual.

Academic Success Workshops

Academic Success Workshops help student develop effective learning strategies, such as improving their individual one-on-one appointments. After the workshop, there will be a follow-up by staff to see if there are any questions or if further help is needed.

Academic Success Workshops are free to the student and provide helpful skills to assist in student success. The topics covered, but are not limited to: ALC 101, Note-taking, Test Success, Organizational Apps, Me v. Finals.

Open Learning Lab Center

If space is available, we encourage students to come up to the ALC to study. We have a study bar and a quiet room if needed.  We also have laptops that can be checked out for use in the ALC.

All students are enrolled. There are resources for each college on the lefthand side menu.

  • For online, there are, but not limited to, videos on how to write a discussion post, how to reply to fellow classmates, and APA resources.
  • For DC, all resources are listed by quarters. For example, in the 2nd Quarter Classes folder, there are recordings for Biochem II, Mopal Lecture 1, etc.
  • For UG, there are resources for classes, such as business, biology, physics, etc. If you are a main campus student taking online courses, please view the helpful information in the online folder.



The Drs. Sid E. & Nell K. Williams Library, named in honor of LIFE’s first president and his wife, is located within the Learning Resource Center building.

The Williams Library offers resources and services for all of LIFE’s varied degree programs. Physical resources available include hard-copy books and periodicals, anatomical models, laptops, and more. Our digital resources span hundreds of collections in topics surrounding programs of study at LIFE and include journal articles, newspapers, and eBooks. Additionally, the Williams Library prides tself on being a space designed to meet students’ needs for study, research, and collaboration. This includes collaborative and quiet study spaces throughout the library as well as study rooms for individual or group study.

The Williams Library staff and faculty librarians provide support for research, study, and library use. Students are encouraged to visit the Williams Library often and ask questions of staff and faculty librarians to enrich their scholarly experience at LIFE.
