PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to standardize the wearing of graduation apparel.

Academic Regalia At Commencement Ceremonies Policy 

 

POLICY STATEMENT


Only cords, stoles, pins, or other marks of distinction approved by the administration of LIFE University shall be permitted to be worn by graduates with their academic attire at university commencements and meet the following guidelines: 

Gold, Yellow, Green and White Cords and or should only be used by the academic honors of Summa Cum Laude (3.75-4.00), Magna Cum Laude (3.50-3.74), and Cum Laude (3.25-3.49), or distinguished service to the University (SI/Tutor, Executive Board of Student Council, Student Athlete, etc).  

Only those stoles approved by the University may be worn (Student Ambassadors, Student Athletes).

Stoles are not to exceed 62 inches in length by 5 inches wide 

In addition, we kindly ask that personal modifications to the mortarboards (caps) be limited to those expressing well-wishing and gratitude or affiliation with sanctioned organization. Students are not permitted to have unacceptable decorations, offensive language or inappropriate images on the mortarboards.

Students not following these guidelines could be pulled from the graduation line up.

 All requests for additional graduation attire must be made to the University Administration through the Dean of Students.

Amendments

Effective Fall 2024, members of the executive committee (President, Vice President , Treasurer) of recognized student clubs and organizations may be eligible to wear the Student Organization stole at graduation. Students must provide documentation from Student Affairs demonstrating that they have been a member of the Clubs Executive Committee for a minimum of 4 quarters. The Life University Club Stole may be worn at the commencement ceremony in which the officer is graduating.

Life University limits the wearing of stoles to one per graduation. If a student has earned more than one stole (Athletics, Student Ambassador, Student Life Force, etc. ) the student can choose which stole to wear during the commencement ceremony. Only one stole may be worn.

Students may wear up to three enameled pins (each not to exceed 1 square inch) on their stole or gown to signify membership in a recognized club or organization. 

Recognized clubs and organizations must raise funds to either rent or purchase a Life University Club Stole.
