DEO 100 - Distance Education Orientation for Undergraudate Students

The Distance Education Orientation for Students has been developed to orient newly admitted online students with the campus community, needed technologies, and to serve as a resource throughout their academic studies at Life University The focus of the orientation is the opportunity to discover navigational features of the Blackboard Learning Management System.


DEO 100 will be required for all students declaring a program or degree offered exclusively in the online modality. Students completing the orientation will earn a non-credit bearing certificate by completing required assessments in the LMS, tracked, monitored and collected by Online Education. The orientation will be graded on a Pass/No Pass basis. Additionally, it will be a prerequisite for all DE students enrolled in CIM 102-0L-Introduction to Computers. New undergraduate distance education students will have access to the orientation beginning week 9 of the quarter before they start online coursework until the Sunday of Week 2 of their first quarter, to align with the online student deregistration period. Students are required to complete the distance education orientation one time only.

The orientation must be completed by the deregistration date which is the end of week two of the students first quarter at Life University. It is expected that the orientation will take ten or more hours to complete. Additional information can be found in the orientation under “Items to Know.”

This two-week, self-paced, pass-fail orientation is meant to assist new Life University undergraduate students with the basics needed to successfully study online. Failure to pass this course within to weeks will result in the respective online student’s deregistration from all online courses for the quarter.
