SHS 406 - Sports and Exercise Nutrition (5-0-5) (Prerequisite: SHS 300 or NTR 306) The purpose of this course is to address the energy transfer in the body during exercise; the macronutrients’ contribution and need in physical performance; the role vitamins and minerals play in physical performance; and hydration status and fluid needs of the athlete. Pharmacological and nutritional ergogenic aids in physical performance; eating disorders, female athlete triad, weight control issues (loss and gain), and some of the facts and fallacies associated with sports nutrition will also be discussed.
