Division of Natural Sciences

The Division of Natural Sciences maintains the qualified faculty and physical facilities necessary to provide an array of sound courses in the fields of Biology (BIO), Chemistry (CHM), Physics (PHS), and Environmental Science (ENV). The Division is located in the College of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies (CGUS), where it shares facilities and faculty with the Basic Sciences Division of the College of Chiropractic.

Programs

Objectives

The objectives of the Department are to:

  1. Provide courses that will satisfy natural science requirements in non-science/non-allied health undergraduate curricula;
  2. Provide courses in the natural sciences necessary for the sound preparation of students in allied health fields;
  3. Provide courses necessary for admission to Graduate and Professional schools (chiropractic, medical, dental, veterinary medicine, podiatry, optometry, etc.); and
  4. Provide the courses necessary to complete Bachelor of Science level degree programs in the sciences.

Twelve hours per quarter is considered a full-time load. A student interested in applying for most financial aid must be enrolled at least half-time (6 hours). Students are allowed to enroll for a maximum of 20 credit hours per quarter.

The department offers three credit courses in general chemistry (CHM 113), organic chemistry (CHM 213) and physics (PHS 213) which are part III in a sequence of courses that will fulfill the 8 semester hour requirement for those students who are planning to pursue their studies in other health fields such as pharmacy, medical and dental etc.

The department also offers one credit Lab Only courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology. These lab only courses are specially designed for transfer students to Life University who have only lecture credit in the above mentioned sciences.
