Degree Requirements


Students receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree must complete a minimum total of 188 quarter credit hours of instruction.

Area I: Humanities, Health and Wellness 25 Quarter Credit Hours
Area II: Social Sciences 15 Quarter Credit Hours
Area III: Science, Mathematics and Computers 20 Quarter Credit Hours

Total: 60 Quarter Credit Hours


Bachelor of Science Offerings


Area IV:  Foundation to Major 30 Quarter Credit Hours
Area V:  Major Requirements 61 Quarter Credit Hours
Area VI:  Electives 20 Quarter Credit Hours
Area VII:  Free Electives 17 Quarter Credit Hours

Total: 128 Quarter Credit Hours


Total Bachelor of Science Requirements: 188 Quarter Credit Hours


Areas I, II, III


Core Curriculum Offerings      

Biology students are strongly advised to complete BIO 111 (General Biology I) and CHM 111 (General Chemistry I) in Area III B as these courses are essential prerequisites for future coursework within the program of study.

 

Area VI: Electives


20 Quarter Credit Hours

Grade of “C” or better is required.

  • Any 300, 400, or 500 level BIO, CHM, ENV, HME, NTR, or SHS course not previously included.

Area VII: General Electives


17 Quarter Credit Hours

  • For this area students may use any course not previously taken.

Additional Completion Requirements


  1. Completion of at least four years of prescribed study, with at least 25% of coursework being earned at Life University.
  2. Satisfactory completion of all in Areas IV – VI courses with a minimum grade of C. All BIO, CHM and PHS courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C.
  3. Satisfactory completion of all courses with a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  4. Completion of SLP requirements documented on co-curricular transcript.
  5. A recommendation for graduation and completion of an exit interview with the Natural Sciences faculty.
  6. File a petition to graduate.
  7. Administrative and student reviews of records
    1. Registrar Office – Complete a formal academic records review
    2. Complete Exit Counseling, if applicable, online at www.StudentAid.gov
    3. Student Accounting – rectify any account balance.
