Degree Requirements

Students receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree must complete a minimum total of 180 quarter credit hours of instruction.

Areas I, II, III

Core Curriculum Offerings      

Biology students are strongly advised to complete BIO 111 (General Biology I), CHM 111 (General Chemistry I), and MAT 101 (College Algebra) in Area III as these courses are essential prerequisites for future coursework within the program of study.

Area IV: Foundation to Major

30 Quarter Credit Hours

Grade of “C” or better is required.

• BIO 201 - Anatomy and Physiology I (DC equivalent)
• BIO 203 - Anatomy and Physiology II (DC equivalent)
• CHM 112 - General Chemistry II
• PHS 111 - General Physics I

Area V: Major Requirements

60 Quarter Credit Hours

Grade of “C” or better is required.

• BIO 312 - Cell Biology
• BIO 316 - Principles of Genetics
• CHM 211 - Organic Chemistry I
• CHM 212 - Organic Chemistry II
• CHM 315 - Biochemistry I (DC equivalent)
• BIO 350 - Experimental Design and Analysis
• MAT 211 - Pre-Calculus or MSC 201   or higher

• select any 300-400 level BIO, HME, ENV, CHM, MAT, MSC, or DC equivalant Credits / Units: 25

Area VI: Minor/Electives

30 Quarter Credit Hours

• Choose a Minor of 25 credit hours and 5 elective credit hours OR choose 30 credit hours of elective courses not previously taken, with at least 15 credit hours at 300 level or above. Minimum grade of C or better required for the minor.

Additional Completion Requirements

1. Completion of at least four years of prescribed study, with at least 25% of coursework being earned at Life University.
2. Satisfactory completion of all in Areas IV – VI courses with a minimum grade of C. All BIO, CHM and PHS courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C.
3. Satisfactory completion of all courses with a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.0.
4. Completion of SLP requirements documented on co-curricular transcript.
5. A recommendation for graduation and completion of an exit interview with the Natural Sciences faculty.
6. File a petition to graduate.
7. Administrative and student reviews of records
   1. Registrar Office – Complete a formal academic records review
   2. Complete Exit Counseling, if applicable, online at www.StudentAid.gov
   3. Student Accounting – rectify any account balance.
