Purpose: Students who live on campus are more likely to earn better grades, become involved on campus, interact with faculty, and are much more likely to graduate. Because of this, Life University has adopted the First Year (freshmen) Campus Living Requirement.

First Year (Freshmen) Campus Living Requirement Policy

Policy Statement


Beginning Spring Quarter (April 2019) all first-time freshmen students, new to Life University, entering Life University’s College of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies are required to reside in University Housing for one academic year (3 quarters).

Procedure(s)


The following exemptions may apply;

  • 22 years of age or older

  • Married, and/or Live with Dependents

  • Reside full-time with their parent(s) (or parental guardian) within a 15-mile driving distance of Life University as measured by Google Maps. This exemption does not apply to Freshmen Student Athletes who receive any athletic scholarship.

  • Students enrolling for less than Full Time Status (<12 Qtr. Credit Hours) in each of the first four quarters of attendance.

All applications for housing exemptions must be submitted to the Dean of Students or their designee.

First-year students are defined as undergraduate students who:

  • Have less than 24 transferable post-secondary semester credit hours

  • Transferable credits earned while still in high school, including dual credit, AP, etc. will not be counted toward the total.

  • Transfer students may be exempted if they met comparable requirements at their previous institution and will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Other Notes


Students may take the summer quarter off. Taking the Summer quarter off will not count in the academic year total. Students must notify Life University Housing at the beginning of the Spring quarter their intentions to vacate or inhabit their room during the Summer quarter.

LIFE University’s definition of a full academic year commences each Fall through the following spring.

Fall, Winter, Spring = one academic Year

Students entering during the Winter Quarter will have the following residency requirement;

Winter, Spring, + Fall, Winter Spring

Students entering the Spring Quarter will have the following residency requirements; Spring, + Fall, Winter, Spring

Students entering the Summer Quarter will have the following residency requirements; Summer + Fall, Winter , Spring

Summer residency will be on an “opt-in” basis.

Students who have lived in The New Commons for four (4) or more consecutive quarters may apply for an exemption from the academic year residency requirement.

All applications for exemptions must be received by the Dean of Students 60 days prior to the next lease term.
