Doctor of Chiropractic Prerequisite Resequencing Announcement

The mission of Life University’s College of Chiropractic focuses on providing an educational environment that promotes graduating skilled and compassionate Doctor of Chiropractic to be primary care clinicians, physicians, teachers, and professionals. The college is constantly reviewing its curriculum and learning atmosphere to ensure that students are able to progress to graduation by identifying areas that can be better structured. These ongoing reviews yield changes that help to support a student’s learning journey from their first quarter to graduation. The college of chiropractic has performed a structural resequencing of its prerequisites that supports the acceleration of a student’s progression to completion of the Doctor of Chiropractic Program. This resequencing is part of the college’s commitment to continuous improvement and student success. This endeavor was a collaborative effort created and approved by the College of Chiropractic faculty and administration.

This structural resequencing of the prerequisites will go into effect for each student in the Doctor of Chiropractic program starting Winter Quarter 2019. The sequenced prerequisites will be published in the Winter 2019 quarterly announcements and will be reflected in the University catalog as well as the Winter 2019 DCP course syllabi.

The Life University College of Chiropractic prides itself on providing the best chiropractic education that promotes competent and skilled graduates. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dr. Leslie King, Dean of the College of Chiropractic at lesliek@life.edu.

CGUS Academic Advising Policy (Revision; Effective Fall 2018)

AS.031

Advisement for registration for all returning students, for all courses, will begin on Monday of Week 7 and run through close of business on Friday of Week 10. Advising is required for all students prior to registration. Advising holds are specific to the advisor and will be lifted once an advising session has occurred. It is essential that students make appointments to see their advisors before registration in order to remove the advising hold. For classes that have restrictions or require special permission, students must contact the department and/or faculty to obtain permission to register. Permission must be updated in Colleague to allow a student to register for the course.

Continuing undergraduate and graduate students who are not registered for courses (during the academic year; Fall, Winter, and Spring) by close of business on Friday of Week 10 are considered late registrants and will be charged a $50 late fee.

DCP Progression Policy (Effective Fall 2018)

AS.040

In accordance with the Council on Chiropractic Education Policy 56 which states that at least 70% of entering students must complete the Doctor of Chiropractic Program within 150% of the time normally designated for completion of the degree, each student enrolled in the DCP will be required to successfully complete an average of 18 credits per quarter in residence which will be checked in 4 quarter increments.

Procedure: Every College of Chiropractic student who has completed 4, 8, and 12 quarters in residence will be audited by a Specialized Professional Advisor (SPA) to determine if they have successfully completed the average number of credit hours attempted per quarters in residence in the DCP.

Credit hours required for successful completion are:

  • 72 credit hours after 4 quarters in residence
  • 144 credit hours after 8 quarters in residence
  • 216 credit hours after 12 quarters in residence

Any student that is found in non-compliance with the policy will be placed on an Academic Performance Contract, receive 4 quarter degree plan, and required to meet with a SPA until they are back on track for completion.

COC Final Dismissal Policy (Effective 8/26/18)

AS.041

Final dismissal in the College of Chiropractic (COC) results if a student is dismissed a second time. There is no appeal for final dismissal.

Procedure: After a student has been dismissed from the COC, they may appeal their dismissal to the COC Dismissal Appeals Committee. The COC Dismissal Appeals Committee will review the information provided by the appellant and recommend to the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA). The final decision is up to the VPAA. If the VPAA approves accepting the appeal, the student will be allowed to register for courses within that program within 2 quarters of receiving the decision. If they do not register within 2 quarters, they will have to reapply to the program and be evaluated for readmission through the COC Admissions Committee. Readmission is not guaranteed. If the student is dismissed again after approval from the VPAA, then the student will be considered academically dismissed and will no longer be eligible for readmission.

If the student appeals to the COC Dismissal Appeals Committee and their appeal is recommended for and approved by the VPAA, they may be considered for readmission after completing the requirements of the Reinstatement Policy. If the student is dismissed again after returning under the Reinstatement policy, the student will be considered academically dismissed and will no longer be eligible for readmission.
