CPSY 5150 - Applied Positive Psychology Coaching

Replaced MPSY 6650

(5-0-5)

This course will focus on the growing positive psychology evidence base as it relates to coaching applications and aligns with International Coaching Federation (ICF) and Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE-BCC) Coaching Competencies. In short, positive psychology is the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive. It is a rich and growing field and aligns perfectly with coaching: both assume people are basically healthy, resourceful, and motivated to grow. Students will explore recent research in positive psychology and how it builds upon current coaching practice to help refine it. Students will also learn the importance of relationships, autonomy and achievement in the coaching process.

Supervision

Additionally, this course covers the basic concepts and models of supervision in coaching psychology, the supervisory relationship, supervision methods and techniques, and ethical and legal issues in supervision. Students will develop knowledge and skills in mentoring and supervision through readings, research, class discussions, and evaluation of their supervision of coaches-in-training.
