POLICY TITLE

Resident Camper Policy

POLICY STATEMENT

In order to support all athletes in their successful participation in athletic camps, all campers must abide by the residential camper policy as set forth by Life University. Failure to follow these policies, and established expectations for social and residential conduct as indicated in the Life University’s Code of Conduct (https://catalog.life.edu/content.php?catoid=5&navoid=173 ) may result in disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion from the camp.

PROCEDURE(S)

Camp Residential Guidelines and Procedures

Residential campers are required to stay in Life University’s residence halls, or the designated off-campus hotel.

Sleep in the bedroom they are assigned to which they are assigned.

Respect the rights of roommates including, but not limited to, the right to privacy and free use of the shared room.

Abide by curfew established by the camp director, including checking-in with camper’s respective Camp Counselors or Resident Assistants every evening by the designated curfew time, and then remaining on their floor unit for the evening. Campers who are delayed in returning to their residence hall by curfew must contact a camp counselor by phone. The residential staff will place a call to the parents and Campus Safety regarding any camper who is more than 10 minutes late for curfew. Local law enforcement will be contacted after 60 minutes to report a possible missing person.

• Room changes or swaps are prohibited. Campers may not change their room assignment without authorization from the Camp Counselor who will determine whether a request can be accommodated.
• Disability Accommodations: Life UAthletics Camps, in conjunction with Disability Services when on campus will make all reasonable efforts offer a range of services and accommodations to assist students with disabilities including significant allergies (including food allergies), medical conditions and temporary injuries. Campers should email camp director prior to the start of camp to inquire about accommodations and ensure the camper’s needs can be met.
• Room Keys: Life University issues one room card to each resident assigned a room in a Life residence hall or hotel room. Campers are expected to be in possession of their room key whenever they leave the room.
• Lock-outs: Campers should contact the camp counselor on call if they are locked out of their room.
• Report lost or stolen keys to the camp counselor immediately.
• Key Return: All campers’ keys are due immediately upon checking out of her/his room. This is necessary both for reasons of security and to allow the university to prepare the room available for the next resident. Campers receive information about where and how to return keys once on campus. Failure to return the key card immediately will result in a $25 charge.
• Visitors: Campers are not permitted to have visitors in Life U residence halls or designated off-campus hotel. Athletics campers may not visit the rooms of college-age students, nor may they entertain college-age students in their rooms.
• Overnight Leave: Campers may not be away from campus or designated off-campus hotel overnight.
• Campers are responsible for the condition of their rooms and hallways, and will be held liable, individually or jointly, for damaged or missing university or hotel property. Camp counselor staff including Life University and visiting coaches will be notified of campers found responsible of any damaged or missing property.
• Early arrival/late departure: Although campers should make every effort to plan their travel to Life U based on their camp start and end date, procedures are in place for most camps to accommodate one day early arrival and one day late departure for those campers who are traveling from long distances and need to work around flight schedules. Please email camp director for details.

Security and Personal Safety

• Residence hall or designated hotel rooms and windows should be locked when not occupied. Residence hall entrances remain locked at all times. Doors should never be propped open.
• Smoking: Tobacco use is prohibited on The Life University campus. Designated off-campus hotels are an extension of Life U and the Life U Code of Conduct applies while off-campus for camp purposes.
• Fire safety: All safety regulations must be followed. When a fire alarm sounds, campers must evacuate the building immediately. Tampering with fire equipment, including fire extinguishers, smoke alarms and alarm boxes, is a violation of law and carries a fine of up to $1,000. Complete fire safety regulations are posted in the residence halls and are reviewed during meetings with residential staff.
• Motor Vehicles: The operation of motor vehicles by residential campers is prohibited. Commuter or Day campers may only use motor vehicles for transportation to and from Life University. Campers who must commute to campus by car are required to obtain a parking permit from their camp counselors.
• In accordance with the Clery Act, Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), the Department of Campus Safety is required to publish an annual security report which includes statistics mandated by the Clery Act. Property

Campers are urged not to bring valuables to campus, or leave valuables in hotel rooms. The university is not responsible for personal property of camper, including items delivered to the university on the camper’s behalf and property in individual rooms. It is strongly urged that all campers have personal property insurance to protect from loss or damage due to theft, fire, flood, vandalism, and any other hazards.

The university reserves the right to remove unidentified/unclaimed items from all areas in the residence halls or hotel. Campers wishing to claim items left behind should contact Campus Safety at 770-426-2911.

Campers who are dismissed from a camp are responsible for packing their belongings and returning their key immediately upon departure. If a camper is not able to pack their belongings before departing from campus, the belongings will be inventoried, packed, and shipped by a third-party vendor contracted by the University at the camper’s own expense. The university is not responsible for lost or damaged property that may occur in packing and shipping.
